- After this interview, the record spread like wildfire across independent stations and was hailed as a new national hit within the subgenre Boogie/ Funk. Radio DJs took pride in proving that Sweden could produce disco/funk with an international feel. At the time, pop and rock dominated the charts, which were largely controlled by one P3 program called "Tracks."
In the 1980s independent stations weren't licensed for powerful transmitters, so noise and interference were common. Sweden had only three powerful national stations—P1 (news and talk), P2 (classical), and P3 (mainstream)—which felt old-fashioned to many listeners. Fans of new and alternative music turned to independents, and Järvasändaren 91.1 MHz was the most popular, hosting a variety of shows and DJs.
